The Asuna and treadmill deal will go ahead, as the US Department of Defense approves a $2 billion deal that includes the sale of up to 10,000 new treadmills, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
President Donald Trump signed the Pentagon’s long-awaited order for the purchase of up 3,000 Asuna treadmilling machines, known as Asunas, in late March.
The deal is expected to cost the government around $1.2 billion, according to a defense official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The Asunaras will be used in all US Army combat units, including Special Forces and Special Operations units.
The purchase of the machines comes as the Defense Department grapples with rising obesity rates in the military, and a growing need to buy equipment that will keep troops and equipment safe.
