Posted January 17, 2018 05:21:03 It’s not a stationary bike, but a folding treadmill that is designed to move like a bicycle.
A company called Nordictrack, based in Sweden, has developed a folding bike that’s been in the works for more than a decade.
“We were working on a bike that would be ideal for walking and cycling but that also had some other attributes that could be useful,” says lead designer Mikael Kjær.
“The idea was to create a bike with some additional characteristics, like stability and handling, to allow it to travel more smoothly and safely.”
Nordictack claims the folding bike is as stable as a regular bicycle, and as agile as a skateboard.
It weighs only about 2 pounds (1.4 kilograms) and is designed for a two-person family of four.
The folding bike has three wheels and is compatible with two pedals and a rear hub.
The bike is designed with a rear handlebar that can be mounted on the rider’s rear.
“It’s very versatile,” says Kjør.
There are two options for folding bikes: a conventional saddle, or a frame that has a foldable handlebar, which could be mounted above the seat and a telescoping wheel that can fit underneath the saddle.
Nordictracks folding bike can be used for two-wheeled commuting, but it can also be used as a folding machine for the elderly.
The company has tested the bike on a family of three and the kids, ages nine to 12.
The prototype bike is now being tested in Sweden.
The concept bike is similar to a traditional bike in shape, but the frame has a different design, allowing for easier access to the pedals.
“Our goal was to use a bicycle frame that would allow a small child to be able to ride it,” says Karina Vardestgaard, a spokesperson for Nordictreks, “and the frame is a very simple frame that is compatible to any type of bicycle frame.”
“The main feature of the folding frame is the rear wheel, which is designed in a way that it could be used on both the front and rear wheels.
This allows for a very stable ride,” says Jør Vigfjäll.
NordicTrack is now planning to test its folding bike on several different people, and it hopes to have a finished product by the end of 2018.
Nordiotrack is working on other folding bikes, including a folding walker that could fold into a wheelchair.
It also has plans to launch a folding chair, which will fold into the ground or into the arms of the user.
